He is one of the original characters of the series. He was too shy to speak to a woman, so he wanted to obtain a girlfriend through the Dragonballs instead. It was love at first site when he first met Bulma. The two of them became a couple for many years. But though out the series they drifted farther apart. Bulma eventually ended up with Vegeta instead.

Although he was a formidable competitor in the first Budokai, Like Krillin, his importance was overshadowed by a Super Saiyan dominated environment throughout DragonBall Z.
